Can Green Tea Help
Your Diet?
What is this green
tea diet that you may have heard so much about lately? Does it
really work or is it just a bunch of hype? Actually green tea has
been used a healthy weight loss for centuries. Green tea will
increase you metabolism in a healthy manner. It has numerous
antioxidants that also help with weight loss.
While green tea will help your diet, it is not a magic bullet. In
and of itself, it will not remove the effects of years of poor dieting
and lack of exercise. But when combined with a healthy diet and
simple exercise green tea will help you lose weight and keep it off.
Scientific studies have shown that green tea extract will raise your
metabolic level and will give you a quick boost. A raised
metabolic level will help you burn more calories more quickly, which is
one of the main purposes of a diet.
The researchers also concluded that that over a 24-hour period, green
tea extract increases the metabolic rate by 4%. These effects are
probably due to the high concentrations of catechin polyphenols found
in green tea. These work to help intensify levels of fat oxidation and
thermogenesis (the rate at which your body burns calories).
The researchers also tell that the catechins in green tea help as a
glucose regulator by helping to slow the rise in blood sugar after a
meal. This prevents the high insult spikes which lead to fat
storage.
By reducing the blood sugar level, green tea helps your diet by
reducing your appetite. Studies have shown that rats injected
with green tea extract have lost 21 percent of their body weight
because of this appetite suppression.
Green tea can be a great tasting substitute for high calorie soft
drinks, and they are better for your teeth. Green tea kills
bacteria that can lead to tooth decay.
The optimal amount of green tea appears to be 3 to 5 cups a day.
It varies per person. But please remember, it’s like the person
that orders the triple cheese burger and large fries and gets a diet
coke, the diet coke will not counter act the high calorie
content. You cannot eat 5,000 calories and expect one cup of
green tea to make it all disappear.
Everything should be done in moderation. Green tea will help with
your diet, but you still need to use common sense about what you eat
and how much exercise you get. Green tea will help, but it cannot
do everything itself, you need to help.
